I liked John H’s composition. I liked how the ukulele complimented the viola, violin, and cello. I like the flow that the cello had,it kept the song moving along pretty well. I enjoyed how the ukulele wasn’t over bearing it just gave it that extra touch. His song was also easy to remember because the repetition was used correctly and not too much. I also like the minor to major feeling the song had.

I really liked Valerie Stone’s piece “Desire”. The piece has a clear structure from beginning to end with movements that display different feelings and the melodies are always strong. Her main piano motif is really delicate but remains strong throughout the piece and always comes in at the right time. The different sections throughout the piece really convey the feeling of a journey and for such a long piece I admire how their isn’t a weak moment.

Last phrase should read ‘there isn’t a weak moment.’
Their, there, they’re all have exact meanings and are not interchangeable.

I really liked Jonnie’s song “Shadow Whispers” I thought it was very impressive. The title fit the song perfectly. The music was soft and eerie just as a whisper would be. The composition was very pleasing to listen to. The chord progressions made sense and the music seemed to just flow together perfectly. Her piece was very sad but also extremely powerful. I really liked the way it would build up and come back down. I also like that each instrument got to have its’ own chance to shine. Jonnie was able to use many different instruments and make them all work together, it was never overbearing to listen to all of them playing. It sounded professional and I was seriously amazed.

At Composition Night, my favorite selection was probably Jonni Wooten’s piece. Her piece’s title “Shadow Whispers” went very well with the overall theme of her composition. The music was very dark and mysterious. It had this type of depressed feeling to it. This is something that I often find myself listening to. It was long but I never got bored. I thought that overall her song was well written and you could easily see that there was feeling and plenty of thought behind it. :) <3

at composition night… i had the pleasure of listening to many good compostions that my peers in Mrs framptons class had came up with. my favorite was no doubt valerie stones desire. I really felt like the mood of the music was wonderful and that she made good use of the instruments that she had included. Not one of the instruments that she used overpowered another instrument. They all seemed to work in harmony to create what i thought was the best song of the night…

    You go val!

I really liked listening to Valerie’s composition, titled “Desire”. It was a beautiful piece and I know she worked really hard on it. What I liked about it was that although it varied and had different melodies, it kept returning to the original melody, which is what caught my attention. The instruments were very well chosen and after hearing bits and pieces of the music, I really liked listening to the entire song together.

I really like Rene’s piece. It was called The Love of a Mother. It was so pretty. It was a very simply but yet intresting piece. She really put alot of thought and work into it. It was very loving and made me think of happy thoughts when i was listening to it. She really loves her mom and at the end i just imagine Rene’s mom giving her big hug and it makes me happy :]. When ever im sad i will listen to this song and it will make me happy and feel the love.

  8. Jonnie Wooten Says:

I enjoyed Valerie Stone’s piece titled “Desire”
This piece started off with simplicity. It then grew to be more complex with rhythm and syncopation. I loved the chord progressions. She moved from a sad and somber feeling to a more happy feeling. The transition back to the starting feeling was well written.
My favorite part was when the bass of the piano was playing fast. Then the cello took the fast paced line. It was something new that wasnt over powering but also left an impression.
The transitions back, again, were very well written.
I could feel the longing in the way she wrot it. Valerie had a very good sense of what she wanted to be in this piece.

  9. Rachel Taylor Says:

I really enjoyed Jonni’s composition. If I remember correctly, it had a haunting melody and was kind of depressing. It had a good number of instruments in it with complex melodies. It seemed very detailed, like she knew exactly what she wanted to write. I liked her use of dynamics a lot. For example, at the end of her piece, she used a decrescendo which left an eerie feeling upon the audience. You could tell she poured her heart into it and also worked really hard. It was a really enjoyable song.

  10. Rene Roncace Says:

At composition night, i enjoyed Quinn’s piece called “Crickets Demise”. She had this kind of organized chaos type of sound that really drew my attention. It made you feel good when you listened to it. It also had a story behind it which I really look for when listening to music. She had all different kinds of percussion instruments in the background that really kept you guessing what would come next. I really liked it and once i have the CD from that night, I will listen to it all the time. :)
